This article shows you how to use Microsoft Stream to make changes to the settings and membership of a group.

Who can edit a group

Only the owners of a group and Global Admins can make changes to the settings of a group.

If you are an owner of the group you can make changes directly in Microsoft Stream.

If you are a Global Admin, you can't make changes in Microsoft Stream, but you can make changes to groups via the Office 365 admin center or Azure portal. See group management for admins for more information.

Edit group

  1. Sign in to the Microsoft Stream portal.
  2. Find the group you want to edit (for example, through My groups or Browse) and click on it.
  3. At the top of the group select Settings.

    Group settings button
  4. Start editing the metadata, settings, or delete the group.

    Edit group dialog

For detailed information on each field and setting for a group, see the create group article.

Note:

If you are an Office 365 customer, groups in Microsoft Stream are built using Office 365 Groups. Be aware that deleting a group in Microsoft Stream will also permanently delete the Office 365 Group, and everything associated with the group. This includes videos, conversations, files, and content for all of the Office 365 Group enabled services like Outlook, SharePoint, Teams, Planner, Yammer, etc. For more information see: Office 365 Groups in Microsoft Stream.

Manage membership

At this point in time you can't manage the membership (owners/members) of a group directly in Microsoft Stream. However you can do this in other Office 365 services that support Office 365 Groups (Outlook, SharePoint Online, Teams, Yammer, Planner, etc).

To help with this, we've added a link within the group in Microsoft Stream to easily jump to Outlook to manage the membership of the group.

  1. Find the group you want to edit (for example, through My groups or Browse) and click on it.
  2. On the group action bar select Membership.

    Group membership button
Note:

When you make changes to the membership of the group from another service it will be synced and take effect in Microsoft Stream within ~1-2 hours (or less).
